Sometimes being a baby isn't so bad

Last summer, while I was pregnant, I took a water aerobics class.  It was a great opportunity to make a lot of friends, stay fit, and beat the summer heat in our new home.  My class even threw me a baby shower in August.  When Jared was born I stopped swimming, but I decided a few weeks ago that I needed to reconnect with the class.  When I called Rita, she invited me to the swim class Christmas party, which was going to be held at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, which is just a few blocks from our apartment.  This morning I bundled Jared into the baby carrier, packed some diapers and a bottle, and we marched off through the rain to meet Jared's San Francisco grandmas.  Of course he was the star of the party.  You'll notice that Diane is holding him, but all of the other ladies are looking on longingly.

Jared was at his charming best.  He smiled and talked and went from one grandma to another without complaint.  Rita even got an ever elusive giggle out of him.

Although there is really no substitute for a genuine grandma, I'm glad Jared finally got to meet most of his other grandmas who were so generous with good advice, gifts, and home grown produce while I was expecting.
Having so many adoring grannies can be exhausting for a little guy!
